The last installment of my list of emotions…
THE DEEPEST HAPPINESS I’VE EVER FELT
It happened this Sunday night. Our family and friends threw Laura a baby shower that afternoon while I hung out with the guys at my father-in-law’s house. When I came home that night the house was silent except for the sound of a music box playing a lullaby in the baby’s room upstairs.
As I walked up the stairs I heard sniffling. I walked into the baby’s room and there was Laura sitting on the floor smiling and crying, surrounded by baby outfits neatly spread out around her. I tried to say something but suddenly got a lump in my throat so I just sat down beside her and put one hand on her back and the other on her stomach. The baby was kicking.
We just sat there.
It had just hit us that everything was ready for him. His crib, his clothes, pictures on the wall, a pile of cards and presents from all the people who already love him, even a music box playing for him. Whenever he’s ready, we are.
Soon.
