Peter's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

April 4, 2001

Hi everybody! I'm back with more adventures in parenthood.

One of the skills I've developed is the ability to remove a toilet and clear the trap and reinstall it in about 15 minutes. Victoria was the original toilet plugger then she moved on to bigger and better things. Now, her sister, Quinn, has taken up where she left off. This time I removed an Animaniac, a toothbrush and a toy Steve from the kids' show 'Blues Clues'. Of course, no sooner had that toilet been fixed that Victoria decided to see if a brand new roll of toilet paper could be flushed down the other toilet! No removal required this time, I just had to reach in and remove the excess.

Our latest source of entertainment is a kids all terrain vehicle (ATV). The first 24 hours were the most difficult as the battery pack had to be charged for up to 18 hours. Then the fun begins! Alex had the first crack at it. I think, as Paris supervised the rides. My turn started on Friday night after work. By this point, Alex was already on Mom's least-favoured list. He took it upon himself to drive over to his friend Johnny's place then had the battery die on the way at the Barons' Gas Station. Mommy had to drag it back, not a good thing as you can understand.

On Saturday, predictably, the first thing on the kids' agenda was riding the new toy. I let Quinn take the first ride and she did very well for a 2 1/2 year old. The look of pride and accomplishment on her face said it all just before her collision with the black currant bush! Both were OK. Victoria also did well but has to realize that looking where you're going is important. Alex did well being used to steering and concentrating on where he is going.

Later in the day, after the second changing of the battery, I let Alex and Victoria check out the second speed. Alex was elated! Speed equals fun! Victoria is a menace at that speed sending Alex and Quinn running as she rounded the brick patio by the pond sliding sideways. The cats are not fond of the new toy!

The new ATV is resting buried in snow after our freak spring snow storm. The kids were all pumped about the snow so after a hearty breakfast of pancakes, I suited them up and away they went. Not five minutes later, I hear the girls screaming. I open the front door to see Victoria and Quinn stuck in a drift up to their waists! Out I go in shorts and sneakers to rescue them. Victoria wouldn't go back out but Quinn decided there was more to explore. About 20 minutes later Quinn is at the patio door crying. In she came, followed by Alex. They'd had enough.

Well, this entry is a wrap. It's 1:30 am and I should get some sleep so I can get to work, weather permitting of course! Take care for now!

Peter and the kids.
