Even though they're only a few days old, McGowan is convinced that there's an enduring connection that originates during those special times when it's just you and your child. "On one of the first nights home with Lilly, she and I just stared at one another and I finally understood what so many other fathers had described to me as a boundless sense of love parents have for their child," he says.
"A lot of things were put on hold at work," Scheer admits. "Especially since my wife and I are partners in our own marketing firm. However, I wouldn't have changed a thing about being away. I work because it's necessary. I spend time with my children because I get a thrill from it. I grew up with a father who worked constantly and we didn't have much of a relationship until about a year before he died. I don't want that for my kids. Work will always be there."
