The Turnaround
Unexpectedly Stepping into Parenthood

After the single longest 45 seconds in history, she went back to the bathroom and quickly returned. Standing at the foot of the bed with giant pools of tears welling up in her beautiful brown eyes, she didn't have to say a word.
"YES!" I yelled, all of the nervousness and apprehension washing away instantly. I found myself so excited I couldn't even keep still. She looked at me, emotional and confused. I hugged her and kissed her and told her that everything would be just fine. We were going to the other side. A new adventure awaited us and it was time to embrace it. Inquisitively searching my face and actions for signs of insincerity, she asked, "You're excited?"
"Yes, I'm excited!" I said. "I can't believe it! Here we go!"
A smile crept up through the tears and we hugged again and released all of the tension in one spontaneous, rambling, animated conversation.
We closed on our new house the next day. Upon walking in after taking possession, we looked at each other and said simultaneously, "It's too small."
Little did we know at the time, but the house was actually too large. Approximately eight months later, it became the absolute perfect size.
