Remember, cooking frugally is a mindset. You have to change your cooking and eating habits. Don't get discouraged if one idea fails. Try another one.

Most people don't think they can live the frugal life and still be comfortable. I feed my family of four on $125 month. Over five years, when my husband earned an average of $22,000 per year, we paid off a $20,000 debt. When cutting your grocery bill, it's the little things that add up.

How It Adds Up!
Cut out these things once per week and save:

  • 1 bag potato chips, per bag; saves 4 per year
  • 6-pack soda, per 6-pack; saves 4 per year
  • Dinner out at ; saves ,560 per year
  • Pizza-delivered plus tip – ; saves ,040 per year
  • Boxed fruit rolls, 1 box .50; saves 0 per year

Cut out one of these things per day and save:

  • 1 liter soda purchased at convenience store ; saves 5 per year
  • 1 liter bottled water .25; saves 6.25 per year
  • 1 cup juice per person for a family of four equals .50; saves 7.50 per year
  • Reducing meat by 1.5 pounds at .50/pound two nights per week; saves 0 per year
  • Lunch out at per person, 20 days per month; saves 0 year

By themselves, these efforts may seem inconsequential – but they add up in a big way.
