7 Tips for Unwinding After Work

Before walking in the front door of the house after a hard day at work, some fathers find they have a better attitude and can be more attentive to their wives and children if they unwind first. Some women even encourage their husbands to work off some steam after work, especially if it means they will be in better moods and be better lovers at home. Here are some examples for how you can unwind after a hard day's work:

  1. Stop at the bookstore and catch up on reading. Order a light, healthy snack or a coffee.
  2. Spend a half-hour lifting weights at the gym and take a quick shower and change into more relaxing clothes before heading home.
  3. Get the car washed. Use the time to think about nothing and zone out.
  4. Take a catnap. Find a comfortable sofa in the library or office and snooze.
  5. Watch a sporting event at a local sports bar and order a nonalcoholic drink.
  6. Offer to pick the children up from their Little League game and relax while watching teams practice.
  7. Volunteer for an hour after work to help focus on other people's problems.
