Gifts Wrapped in Pink and Blue

25 Ways to Welcome the New Mom and Baby

Charm Her
There are also many choices for mother's jewelry – a charm bracelet to which Mom can add charms as the baby gets older and reaches certain milestones. This personal timeline could eventually be passed down to a daughter or a son's wife or child. A necklace with birthstones of the new mom and baby is also a special piece, especially because Mom can wear it close to her heart.

Not comfortable picking out sentimental gifts? Make yourself comfortable in the kitchen. Don't worry, it doesn't have to be anything fancy. "Turn a simple meal into a romantic dinner by setting the table in the color pink or blue and have a mini-dinner celebration the night Mom comes home," Spizman says. "It could be frozen food or take out; the key is that Dad remembers to prepare dinner or have it ready to serve. New moms need to be pampered a bit!"

Flowers? Balloons? Jewelry? Cliches or old favorites? There are many ways for a new dad to make the new mother feel very special when she brings their baby home. With a little bit of thought, and a whole lot of heart, he can venture out in new directions or simply put a creative twist on those old favorites. Remember, Dad, you won't get a second chance to celebrate the first time – set the bar high and show Mom and Baby how it's done.

Now Is the Time to Celebrate!

Valerie Swack, co-founder of BabyBrowns.com, thinks that the celebration should start as soon as possible – before Mom and Baby get home, and even before Mom gets to the car. "At the hospital, do a mini-celebration," she says. "Bring a little cake and a bottle of sparkling water with champagne glasses. Make a T-shirt that says 'Proud Dad' or something fun like that. Bring some massage foot oil and rub her feet. Bring her favorite music and turn it on. Have the baby in the basinet and toast the baby and new mom."
