Get Involved and Stay Involved
Nothing will make Mom feel more assured than your being proactive, just as nothing will drive her battier than having to tell you something three times. The instincts of even the best fathers are still far slower than the innately lightning-quick instincts of the average mom. As a father you may find yourself giving silent self-congratulations for having found that extra stash of diapers in less than three minutes, only to realize your partner seems to be able to make a burping pad appear out of thin air.

Don't worry about whether you can measure up to maternal instincts and quickness; you can't. To her, the most important thing is that you try. "We love when you take initiative," says Klaiman. "Getting a cloth when the baby spits up, taking her from her crib when she's crying, offering to take the early morning shift so we can get an extra hour's worth of sleep – those things mean a ton."

Do the Little Things
"Getting out of bed in the morning is horrifying when you're pregnant," says Jennifer Zelovitzky, mother of 20-month-old Madeline. "The thing my husband did that was most appreciated was to bring me toast and tea every morning. He timed it so that I'd have 15 minutes to eat before Madeline woke up. It helped me function."
