Spooky Fun to Make with Your Child

By Kymberly Pratt

Pages:  1  2  3

To make a ghost:

  1. With white paint, stamp your foot on black paper and set aside to dry.

  2. After it's dry, cut it out and draw two eyes and a mouth on the heel part of your footprint.

  3. Poke a hole near the top, and tie a piece of yarn through the hole. If you can find glow-in-the-dark paint, you can hang your creations outside after dark!

Pumpkin Mask
Materials needed:

  • Paper plate
  • Orange and black markers
  • Green construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue or stapler
  • Wooden craft stick

Here's what you do:

  1. Have your child hold the plate up to his face and carefully mark where his eyes are. Then draw and cut out triangles around where the eyes would be so he can see out of his mask.

  2. Have your child color the entire plate with the orange marker. You can also use paint if you prefer.

  3. Cut out a stem and leaves from the green construction paper. Attach to the top of the plate.

  4. With the black marker, draw a triangle for the nose and a mouth with lots and lots of teeth.

  5. Attach the wooden craft stick. Now you have a mask to help you celebrate the holidays. You can even do other animals or holiday decorations the same way (bats with wings, ghosts, scarecrows, characters – the sky is the limit!).
