Saying Good-bye to Youth

I pulled the door shut behind as I left the room. The thought that I was finally an adult kept reverberating through my mind. It wasn't until the idea landed in my heart that the loss of my former self begin to dissipate. What had been the relics of youth were now just "stuff." Stuff to put in boxes, stuff to look at in the future. Stuff for my kids to discover when they're older.
My wife is waiting for me when I make it to the den. "You will survive, you know." I smile and nod. "Yeah, I know. Besides, in 18 years I get my room back!" "Dream n old man, dream on!" she replies.
