Homes for the Holidays
Economical Decorating with Your Family
By Jenn Director Knudsen
Peterson also recommends making holiday refrigerator decorations using magnet sheets and coloring-book designs.
And for older children, Barbara Richardson, interior decorator and director of color marketing for Cleveland-based Glidden, a leading manufacturer of architectural paints, suggests selecting an assortment of wooden designs, including stars, balls and hearts. Children can paint with stripes, polka dots or any crazy, kid-inspired design and then fasten them together to adorn a tree, mantel or holiday table. "No more breakable glass ornaments," Richardson says, adding the wooden d袯r makes a great family project.
One final bit of advice: Author and craft expert Kathy Peterson cautions parents not to judge your child's crafting abilities. "There are no rights [or] wrongs when you're making crafts! Only lots and lots of family fun," says Peterson, who has appeared on Home and Garden Television and the Discovery Channel.
With a little creativity, some helping hands and the holiday spirit, turning your home into a winter wonderland can be a joyful experience for the whole family.
