Sex Isn't a Four-letter Word

Stepping Back into Intimacy After Children

The rest of us flash her a superior look. Meagan says, "Have your baby and report back to us in six months."

Meagan twirls the end of her ponytail. "There's hope, though. My friend, Jennifer, wrapped herself in Saran Wrap like in "Fried Green Tomatoes" and called her husband home early from work the day her 3-year-old entered preschool. Said her sex drive came from nowhere and hit her like a brick."

Kirsten says, "Wouldn't work for me. My cellulite wrapped in plastic would traumatize my hubby."

I envision the extra 6 pregnancy pounds I haven't yet shed. "I'd have to try something more opaque." It feels good to laugh with my friends and I don't feel so alone with my problems.

Shortly after Max's first birthday, a doctor recommends putting tubes in Max's ears. With the tubes in place, Max sleeps through the night and so do I.

I'm reading in bed a month later when Lars enters the bedroom. He removes his shirt, wads it into a ball and throws it towards the laundry basket. Hummm ... he looks good standing there bare-chested in his jeans. His shoulders were always broad but his stomach is flat from running with Max in the baby-jogger. I welcome an almost forgotten surge of desire as he removes his jeans and slips into bed. I turn to him. "Honey, that striptease really turned me on."

He stares at me. "What?"

"I said you turn me on."

"Oh, really?"

"Of course. Guess I was just too tired to notice." I grin. "I'm wide awake now. Take me. I'm yours."

"Ask and you shall receive." He looks relieved before embracing me.

At 2 a.m. I wake up burning with desire again, my sex drive back online. Should I nudge Lars? Poor baby, better let him recharge. Saran Wrap is too much for me but I heard about a creative use for whipped cream. Future nights should be memorable.
